What is 0K in Celsius?
0K is -273.1°C.
Type a temperature to convert it from Kelvin to Celsius. The two scales do not share a zero, so the conversion shifts as well as scales.
Result
Kelvin and Celsius measure the same thing on different scales, and they start counting from different places. That is why the conversion is not a simple multiplication: 0K comes out as -273.1°C, not zero.
Going the other way, 0°C is 273.1K. Any converter that treats this as a ratio gets both directions wrong.
The kelvin is the base unit of temperature in the International System and starts at absolute zero, the point where no more heat can be taken away. It has no negative values and is written without a degree sign: water freezes at 273.15 K. Science and the color temperature of light bulbs use it.
The Celsius scale puts the freezing point of water at 0 °C and its boiling point at 100 °C at sea level. It is the everyday scale in almost every country, and its degree is the same size as the kelvin, offset by exactly 273.15.
| Kelvin | Celsius |
|---|---|
| 0 | -273.15 |
| 10 | -263.15 |
| 20 | -253.15 |
| 25 | -248.15 |
| 30 | -243.15 |
| 37 | -236.15 |
| 100 | -173.15 |
0K is -273.1°C.
Use the same tool with the scales swapped. 0°C is 273.1K.
