When Easter 2026 arrives

The countdown targets local midnight, which is what people mean by the start of the day. If you are waiting for a specific moment of Easter rather than the date itself, set your own target on the main countdown page.

Because the clock reads your device, the number is right wherever you are: no conversion to do in your head, and no assumption about which country you are in.

Easter is the oldest feast of the Christian calendar, and the rule for its date is associated with the Council of Nicaea in 325: the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after March 21. The rule uses a moon tabulated by the church rather than the astronomical one, which is why the computed date occasionally differs from what the sky would suggest. Lent, Ascension and Pentecost are all counted from it.

Frequently asked questions

How many days until Easter 2026?

The clock above has it, down to the second, in your own time zone. For the plain day count (and the weekday it falls on) the days-until calculator answers that in one number.

Why does my count differ from someone else’s?

Because you are in different time zones. The date is the same everywhere, but local midnight is not the same instant: it arrives in Tokyo hours before it arrives in New York.
